International Search Engines with descriptions:
  • All  the Web
    One of the more recently developed Web indexing  tools, this search engine indexes a very large database. It has separate search boxes for audio, FTP, and picture files. Advanced search options support domain filters, word filters,  and allow searching in 25 different languages.
  • Alta Vista
    The  AltaVista search service helps you find Web pages, news, discussions, products, images, videos or audio clips on the World Wide Web. You tell the search service what you're looking for by  typing in keywords, phrases, or questions in the search box.  AltaVista has the biggest Web index with more than 30 million  documents on 275,600 servers,  and 14 miljoen articles  and 14,000 Usenet news groups.
  • Excite
    Search engine and directory, stock quotes, yellow pages, news, classifieds, maps, horoscopes, weather, sports, chat, personalized features, and more.
  • Galaxy
    Galaxy is a guide to find world wide information and is provided by the TradeWave Corporation
  • Google
    Simply the best search engine on the Web, indexing the largest number of Web pages -- and now offering the ability to search images, and more. Google is an amazing site which  uses sophisticated next-generation technology to produce the  right results fast with every query. Currently has more than 1.6 billion Web pages in its index!
  • Hotbot
    A  great tool. Possibly the largest search index on the WWW. Hotbot indexes every word, link, and media file on more than 110  million Web documents and refreshes its entire database of  documents every three to four weeks. Part of the Lycos Network of sites. Hotbot allows users to construct sophisticated search queries of its index without previous knowledge of complex search terms and methodologies .
  • GO Network Express Search
    Web portal that integrates content, personalization, search, directory, community and much more.
  • Lycos
    Lycos is a comprehensive Internet database that allows Boolean 'and' and 'or' combinations of words in searching more than 19 million Web sites.
  • MetaCrawler
    MetaCrawler simultaneously searches Lycos, Infoseek, WebCrawler, Excite, AltaVista, Thunderstone, DirectHit, LookSmart, and Yahoo. A brief annotation is provided with  the search results.
  • Nothern  Light Search
    Nothern  Light Search is unique in that it searches both full-text articles of more than 2,000 publications as well as a large  number of Web pages. Sort results into folders based on keywords, source, or other criteria.
  • NBCi
    Search engine and directory, stock quotes, yellow pages, news, classifieds, maps, horoscopes, weather, sports, chat, personalized features,  and more.NBCi ranks site popularity based on the number of its users who  click on the site and find it useful for a particular topic,  the higher it will be listed in the search results over time.
  • Webcrawler
    Just enter one or more words in the Search text box on the Webcrawler home page and click on Search. It doesn't matter whether you  use capital or lowercase letters. If you enter more than one  word, Webcrawler will automatically find records that contain  one or more of them.
  • What's New
    What's New, the complete listings of new Web sites on the Internet. A great site for finding the latest additions to the Web.
  • Yahoo
    Yahoo, a popular favorite, which is a fairly comprehensive subject index. More of a directory than search engine; however, have partnered with Google.com to provide excellent searching in addition to its directory. Options at the bottom of the screen link to searches in a particular country (Denmark, France, Mexico) or city (Los Angeles, New York City) which may be in the native language  of that country.
